The Power of Educational Influence - One Day, 13 Hours

Education is a powerful tool. It enables us to obtain our hopes and dreams, and in our current society, we can see the power of educational influence unfold and send a loud and clear message to generations of people. Education has influenced our society to feel safe enough to cross boundaries that we've not trusted to be crossed before. The boundary that was crossed of which I am referring to, was done strategically by educating a people that was once stuck in bigotry or simply unable to be reached because no attemptwas ever induced to capture their values, opinions, and hopes.

Not attempting to address the bigot's in American society today due to the fact that only they can see themselves and ask for deliverance from their fears, struggles, and contentions. But I do ask how a group labeled generation X could speak so loudly on one day, over thirteen hours. The answer: Great minds or at least like minds came together, organized, planned, worked hard, dedicated time, energy and money to do one thing: WIN in the power of ONE VOICE. What would our world or American culture resemble if we took this same approach to educate youths who are in gangs, hate groups or cults? If we all banded together in one voice to win over the hurt, lost, confused generation of people who have no place in society. We would see instantaneous change happen in our community, state, nation, and world. We would see the ideals of our nation be redefined right before our eyes just as it happened a few days ago.

My question to you the reader, is, what are your attitudes and predispositions that stunt American society? Surely you have some, whether they are unspoken, casually mentioned in your home, toggled across your mind when you feel unjustified, or when you realize that people don't view the world as you do. Whatever your attitudes and predispositions may be, I encourage you to educate yourself for the good of the influence.

In summation, let us join together in the power of educational influence and work towards changing the past hurts and wounds of our nation so that we may be united as one. In other words, let's go further.

Did You Know?

Did you know that East Carolina Universities Educational Specialist (Ed.S) degree is completely online! This degree sixth year degree provides Level II Administration and Supervision licensure.

What can you do with a sixth year degree? Good question! The Ed.S degree opens the door to central office positions, state and federal educational agencies, as well as a salary increase in the public schools. There is no dissertation that must be written after completion of the program. This is a wonderful alternative to those who desire to further their education beyond the master's degree but have no interest in obtaining a doctorate degree.

I also encourage you to look at other Educational Specialist programs at the following universities:
University of North Carolina at Greensboro
Appalachian State University
Western Carolina University

"Technology Standards for Administrators, Teachers and Students"

1. Should the new administrator standards parallel the new teacher standards?
Yes, I agree the administrator standards should be parallel to the new teacher standards. Especially the first standard that states, "Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity." Administrators must first be creative and able to faciliate the use of technology with their staff. It is very critical that administrators know how to use technology and engage their staff in how to use it effectively, safely and efficiently.

2. Are there additional standards to which administrators should be held?
I believe an additional standard that should be added is, "Communication and Collaboration" which is listed as a standard for students. Many administrators do no realize that their are so many ways to communicate to staff outside of e-mails and face-to-face staff meetings. Many principals do not utilize blogging, videoing and digital imaging etc. to communicate and collaborate with their staff. My belief is administrators should be held to this standard more frequently in regards to the age we are living.

3. What is your overall reaction to the current administrator standards?
I did not know that there were technology standards for administrators. Overall, I believe it is wonderful we have them in place. Administrators should be encouraged to follow these standards as it will only make them more aware and proficient in our complex digital age.
